Matamata Swifts Reserves 2 v Hamilton Wanderers B 2

After been a little unlucky in their opening league match the previous week, Matamata staged a good fight back from two goals down to share the honours in a 2 - 2 draw on Saturday.

Down 1 - 0 at halftime after conceding a penalty, Matamata were playing well enough to have confidence for the second half. A second goal to Wanderers made things interesting but the Swifts increased the tempo and Chris Bedford narrowed the gap with a good strike.

Joseph Dew burst through with a good run and finished well to draw the sides level and Floyd Emson almost got a late winner for the Swifts but his shot shaved the post.

There was an excellent senior football debut for several college players in the side who fitted in well with the more experienced heads.

Player of the day for Matamata was Joseph Dew.
