Unicol
3 v Matamata Reserves 3
In a game that went right down to the wire the Swifts snatched
a dramatic late equaliser in a thriller of a game at the University on
Saturday. Unicol had inflicted the Swifts Reserves heaviest defeat of
the season in the first round and they were keen to make amends in a game
that had plenty of action at both ends.
Unicol opened the scoring after a slip in footing by the Swifts gifted
an opportunity but the Swifts were soon level again after Adam Graham
beat the offside trap to score.
The second half started with Scott Hudson rattling the crossbar with a
shot and Alan Tappin heading just over the bar. Unicol's second goal was
a scorcher but Adam Graham again equalised when a great through ball gave
him the space to lash the ball home.
Unicol retook the lead with an easy goal with the soft surface again causing
footing problems for the Swifts. The last ten minutes saw the Swifts have
several chances to score and with time almost up Adam Graham managed to
shrug off his marker to slot the equaliser.
In a good team performance Peter Challis was again the defensive kingpin,
while keeper Justin Read put his body on the line a number of times, Scott
Hudson showed his class in midfield, and a hat trick earnt Adam Graham
the player of the day award.
