Otorohanga 3 v Matamata Reserves 0

The Swifts reserves had their final game of the season away at league leaders Otorohanga. It was a game that the home side had to either win or draw to clinch the league but it looked for a while as though the Swifts could spoil their party.

The first half was fairly even with opportunities to both sides. A minute before the break Scott Hudson had his effort cleared off the line, Otorohanga swept down the field and snatched the vital opening goal in the final few seconds of the half.

The second half was much like the first with the Swifts looking for that equaliser, they had a good chance five minutes before the end but couldn't convert.

Otorohanga punished this a minute later with a soft goal and to rub the salt in score a third in the final minute for a rather flattering final score line.

Matt Stoddart picked up the Swifts player of the day award.

It was a season of two halves with the Swifts having half a dozen players new to senior football, the improvement in second round results reflecting a settled combination and confidence. The main squad consisted of Justin Read, Robert Cox, Alan Tappin, Joel Chamberlain, Floyd Emson, Peter Challis, David Mann, Matt Stoddart, Phil Ruck (pictured, left), Joseph Dew, Chris Bedford (pictured, right), Adam Graham, and Scott Hudson.
