Hamilton North 1 v Matamata Reserves 1
The Swifts reserves' recent good run of results continued when
they secured an away draw with second placed Hamilton North. The pitch
was not conducive to a free flowing game but fortunately the rain held
off.
The Swifts almost scored in the first twenty seconds of the game but it
was still scoreless at halftime with the home side's best effort hitting
the post.
The Swifts new recruit, Fabio, opened the scoring from close range shortly
after coming on as a sub in the second half. The home side scrambled an
equaliser but the Swifts survived the last twenty minutes comfortably
to emerge with a creditable draw.
Robert Cox had another storming game in midfield, while Joseph Dew had
his role in shutting down the opposition's midfield general. Chris Bedford
was a good link to his forwards although they had their work cut out by
a steady home back line. Justin Read had another stand out game in goal,
sometimes disguised by the pool of mud he had to dive into.
Alan Tappin moved to right back from his normal forward position and emerged
with the player of the day performance for his defensive work.
