Claudelands A 3 v Matamata Reserves 1
It was the old game of two halves at Claudelands on Saturday.
The home side had the better of the first half, fielding a few more experienced
players this time around and scored two cracking 18 metre goals which
left keeper Justin Read with little chance.
The Swifts reply was through Adam Graham, getting a touch to a Robert
Cox freekick and there was almost a second with the ball eventually cleared
off the line.
Claudelands extended their lead early in the second half with another
18 metre effort with the Swifts a little slow to react. The Swifts dominated
the rest of the half, quicker to the ball and winning most of the fifty/fifty
tackles.
They had their opportunities with Alan Tappin, Adam Graham and Joel Chamberlain
going close but the Claudelands keeper was in fine form.
Right back Matt Stoddart was the Swifts player of the day while sweeper
Peter Challis played on well despite the injuries.
