Matamata Swifts Ladies 17 v Te Awamutu 0

It's not always obvious how little things add up over the course of a game! At the Matamata Domain on Sunday the Womens soccer team put on an explosive display against Te Awamutu
in a pre-season match.

The little things like passing and finishing and ball to feet, added to the 17-nil score. The team was not flat-footed this week from the start. Right back Lani Guilford (Possum) thundered into a fifty-fifty tackle, coming off second best when the ball deflected off a Te Awamutu player, forcing her to sit the remainder of the first quater of the match.

What a game it was to watch. Rachel Haskew (Egg), Erica Evans (Troll) and Jenny Bird (Forrest) in midfield worked well together. Accuracy with first time passing was outstanding. Leah Higgins and Kristina Johnson showed great teamwork down the left hand side. New recruit Jenny Wild had her first touch of the ball this season; she was powerful in her fullback roll. Nerida Dodge (Sarge) was gutsy up front and put in some good crosses. Natalie Gaskell (Beckham) put on a flamboyant display netting 13 goals with headers, chip kicks and thunder kicks. It was fantastic to watch.

Rebecca Stevens was in top gear on the right wing. Elena Parlane (Good Girl) battled throughout scoring two goals. Katrina Johnson put one over the keeper as well.

Match official, local ex-player Owen Osbaldiston, controlled the game well, handling some sticky situations. Jennifer Hull (Stoney) did not have much work to do in goal as the ball was down the other end of the paddock. Shanadelle Howard picked up any loose ball coming through.
