Matamata Swifts Ladies 2 v Ngaruawahia 1
Matamata were at home to Ngaruawahia on Sunday. Played in blustery
conditions Matamata came away satisfied with another win. Ngruawahia were
a very physical team and put in some bone crunching tackles.
The visitors put immense pressure on the Matamata backline scoring in
the opening minutes. After that goal the backline fought hard and didnt
give them an inch, much to the delight of stand-in keeper, Vicki Maclean,
who had a brilliant game, saving a direct penalty being one of her highlights.
Matamata striker Elena Parlane sneaked one past the keeper and, with both
teams even, it was a battle from there. A little while later Natalie Gaskell
chipped the ball over to Elena Parlane who was waiting at back post to
fire another one in, making it 2-1 to Matamata at half time.
The second half was a fired up encounter. Amazingly enough no goals were
scored. Matamata came away happy for the second weekend in a row. Player
of the day was Dana Richards for her hard work at the back.
