Morrinsville 2 v Matamata Swifts Ladies 4
Matamata was up against a staunch Morrinsville side. Played at
Morrinsville on a very soggy pitch ,it was difficult to control the ball.
Matamata were first to score with a fine goal from Nerrida Dodge. Morrinsville
were looking dangerous and before long they managed to score from a corner.
Matamata battled on with Jen Wild valuable at centre back putting through
some thundering clearance kicks. Jo Good has made an impact on the team
working hard in defense. Viki Mclean had a gutsy game in goal in the first
half with some mud splattering saves.
There was a mishap that fullback Lani Guilford would rather forget. She
went for the smashing clearance in the 18 yard box... the ball deflecting
off her knee and straght past her own keeper. The mishap was quickly forgotten
as Nat Gaskell weaved around players slotting one past the Morrinsville
keeper. The goals were shared by Nat Gaskell, Nerrida Dodge and Elena
Parlane. It was a well fought match played in wet, cold conditions.
Sunday's player of the day for Matamata was Viki Mclean.
