Claudelands Rovers 3 v Matamata Swifts Ladies 3
Matamata travelled to Hamilton on Sunday to take on Claudlands
Rovers. Matamata had played this team a fortnight ago losing 5-0 so they
knew it wasn't going to be easy.
Within the first ten minutes Rovers scored 2 quick goals. This made Matamata
fire up and the team work was fantastic. Every loose ball was contested
and every tackle was challenged hard. A very staunch backline made up
of Annie Stevens, Jenny Wild, Lani Guilford and sweeper Natalie Gaskell
proved hard to get past.
Natalie went up field on a few occasions scoring a goal, and netting a
penalty. The half time score 3-2 to Rovers.
Rovers didn't score in the second half, but Matamata put one past their
keeper by Nerida Dodge. The whole team dug it in for eighty minutes -
nobody gave up. The final score was 3-3 and you would have thought Matamata
had just won the FA Cup 9-0 from all the cheers! 13 year old Chloe McCarthy
made her debut for the ladies and, with practice, she will be a threat.
Player of the day was Jenny Wild.
