Matamata Swifts Ladies 3 v Te Awamutu 2

It was a glorious day for soccer at the Matamata Domain on Sunday. Matamata took on a fired-up Te Awamutu side who scored first. It was a goal that surprised the backline as it appeared to float in from nowhere.

A short time later Elena Parlane blasted the ball past Te Awamutu's keeper. Matamata had a penalty awarded against them, caused through what seemed to be an accidental trip of a Te Awamutu player in the box. A direct penalty kick hit the crossbar ricocheting onto a Te Awamutu striker's boot then past a frustrated Jennifer Hull, in Matamata's goalr.

Matamata were unruffled, it was time to lift their workrate. With Natalie Gaskell virtually marked out of the game it was up to Matamata's superboot, Elena Parlane, to net another goal, which she did with style chipping one over the keeper.

Just after halftime Matamata had possesion with Jenny Bird bringing the ball in to the box ready to fire it in. Then a Te Awamutu player contested a fifty-fifty ball, tackled hard, and as a result, unfortunately the Te Awamutu player broke her leg. Scarey stuff indeed!

Matamata came away with yet another victory thanks to the flamboyant display of Elena Parlane who netted a final goal. That was a hat-trick for her and the team were on cloud nine.

Player of the day went to Annie Stevens. Next Sunday Matamata are away to Hamilton North. If there are any ladies interested in playing soccer for Matamata the team needs YOU! Please phone Coach Cameron Brown 07 880 9191.
