Match Report

For the second time this season, the Challenge Matamata Ladies team ran in a double figure score line, beating Te Awamutu 11-2. A very comprehensive win for a team who is now winding down for the year, with only one game remaining until the muddy boots get hung up until the "08" season begins.

Playing our last home game on the always immaculate Domain pitch, the girls put on an impressive display of team work and individual brilliance, delighting our ever faithful and staunch supporters.

With more tricks than David Copperfield up her sleeve, Leah Higgins opened up the scoring when she fired a shot from out wide on the 18 yard box, sailing over the helpless goal keeper's outstretched arms.

Sarah Monteith played a sublime game on attack, continuously causing havoc on the field by torturing the heavily stacked Te Awamutu backline. Monteith grabbed a double in the first half as did Nat Gaskell taking us to five at the half time break.

The second half saw the highly motivated Matamata team run in a further six goals. It seemed as though Monteith had set up camp in the oppositions goal area, with the ball finding her feet about as often as Johnny Wilkinson gets injured. She added four more to her tally while Gaskell ran in another two.

The team welcomed back Jen Craig after a couple of months break from a foot injury who along with Jo Good, Shanadelle Howard, Roxanne Hanson and Lani Guilford had an outstanding game in defence, thus allowing us to play very attacking football.

Matamata Car Painters player of the day went to Sarah Monteith.
