Coming
off a close victory last week Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies wanted
to add another win to their tally, and they did just that against
Te Awamutu. Matamata dominated the first 20 minutes of the game
and applied a lot of pressure on the Te Awamutu defensive line.
Many opportunities went begging as Matamata just were not able to
finish it off - the ball seemed to have it's own mind.
Sarah
Hockley scored the first goal for Matamata. Nat Gaskell sent in
a cross from out wide, Hockley managed to get a foot to it and the
keeper was unable to stop it. So Matamata where now hoping that
the tables had turned and things would come a bit easier and cleaner
for them....ahh no.
For some unknown reason everything just got ten times harder. The
Te Awamutu strikers turned up the pace and were running through
the Matamata defence. The only reason they were unable to score
was because they couldn't get the ball past the Matamata's keeper,
Jenn Hull, who improves with every game played.
Closer to half time Nat Gaskell, last season's top club goal scorer,
started her tally for the new season. After collecting a corner
kick she volleyed the ball into the goal.
The second half started as the first half ended, in a bit of disarray
but Matamata were still able to hold it together and string together
some good passes. Gaskell added another goal to the score thanks
to a helpful deflection from a T.A defender.
It was a frustrating game as many of the attempts at goal were only
just off target. The Matamata Car Painters Player of the
Day went to Keeper Jenn Hull, who has managed to keep the opposition
scoreless now for 180 minutes.
