Challenge
Matamata Ladies travelled away to Ngaruawahia in need of some goals
to put them into 3rd position on the table.
The game began a bit disorganised on Matamata's behalf, playing
a new 3-4-3 formation. However, once the game settled and some good
passing took place, Matamata found themselves a goal up. This came
through some great passing along the right hand side and finally
into the centre to Natalie Gaskell who has no problem scoring goals.
(Although she might argue this, as she hit the post at least 6 times!)
This goal lifted Matamata's heads and within 5 minutes the score
was 2-0. This was through some excellent passing by two new players
to the team, Lana Brus and Chantelle Van Waveren, along to Sarah
Monteith who calmy and precisely side footed the ball past the keeper.
Matamata went into the break 2-0 ahead.
After half time the tempo slowed a little for Matamata and Ngaruawahia
rustled up a few more chances. However the Matamata backline of
just 3 and goalkeeper Jen Hull did great, halting every Ngaruawahia
attack.
Matamata's third goal came from a goalie fumble from a powerful
Natalie Gaskell shot, with Sarah Monteith very quick to slot the
ball in at near post. This takes Matamata to 270 minutes without
conceeding a goal, very well done girls.
Matamata Car Painters player of the day went to Lana Brus who did
brilliantly at right back contributing to two of Matamata's goals.
Next Sunday Matamata host Claudelands at the Domain, hope to see
you there!
