The mighty Challenge Matamata Ladies travelled away to Ngaruawahia on Sunday looking for their 3rd consecutive win over them this season.
Travelling with just the bare 11, with no subs to call upon for the match, we took to the pitch with an attacking formation of 4-3-3, in hope this would allow us to play an expansive and fast game against our opponents.
Possession chopped and changed for the first 10 minutes of play but once we settled our nerves and the passes started going to feet we completely dominated the first half with our countless attacks, overwhelming there tiring and frustrated defence line.
Sarah Hockley and Nat Gaskell carved up the defence faster than a Ginsu 2000 knife set, nudging in two goals apiece with Sarah Monteith adding one to the total, taking us to the half time break with a 5-0 lead.
The second half saw us run in a further six goals, largely due to Serena Jenkins who dominated the midfield sending well placed through balls all day long, thus allowing the three strikers to add more goals to their tally.
While the attackers did a great job this match, much of the praise must be showered upon the defence line of Alana Bruis, Jo Good, Shanadelle Howard and Lani Guilford who with a gutsy performance completely got amongst it and kept them scoreless.
The team must be thankful for Roxanne Hanson and Lani Guilford who were called upon at such short notice, to fill the gaps on the field, who without them we would have had to play with nine. This earning Roxanne Hanson the Matamata Carpainters player of the day for her tireless work in a new position on the left wing.
