The
Matamata Ladies traveled away to Flagstaff on Sunday to play a very
young and talented Hamilton North side. With Matamata not wanting
to end their winning streak they went out with a simple game plan,
play their own game and get back to basics.
Matamata started off with a lot of excellent foot skills and possession
of the ball but this was to be short lived as the Hamilton North
players began to dominate the attacking play. If it had not been
for the howling cross field wind Hamilton North may have scored
earlier.
The first goal of the game from an unfortunate deflection from a
clearance kick made by Matamata and there was no chance for the
keeper to stop it. Hamilton North struck again very quickly, with
their striker making a centre field dash to out run the defense
to send it into the goal.
Throughout the first half Matamata didn't play the best football
of the season so far, it was very disjointed and first touch was
less than skillful, but not wanting to be discouraged by this Matamata
started the second half knowing that they do have the skill and
talent to come back and win the game.
Things improved for Matamata to a certain point until Hamilton North
added to their tally, with the Hamilton North striker running around
the Matamata defence and heading the ball out of the keepers reach.
There was some consolation though for Matamata when striker Sarah
Hockley followed the ball onto the keeper and scored one for the
Ladies.
So at the end of the game Matamata were obviously a bit disappointed
with a loss but with every game you take away the good and leave
the bad behind.
The Matamata Car Painters player of the day went to Centre Back
Jenn Wild. Her return to the field after a long injury break and
work commitments saw her bring back a bit of fire to the side and
some occasional skill with the ball...
The next game is on 10th June away vs. Cambridge at John Kerkof
Park. 11am Kick off.
