Matamata Swifts 0 ...v... Cambridge 0 >>(ht 0-0)

Match Report

FIERY STALEMATE

It's been over a week since this game. I've been overseas and can't remember much about it so there won't be much of a report.

Both teams were well matched with Cambridge looking more likely to score from set pieces and Matamata more likely from open play. The Swifts youngsters again shone, while the team was well led by Andy Birchenough. Scott Parsonage went off before half time following a clash of heads. His injury required seven stitches.

The match ended five minutes early following a scuffle between two players. Some shirt pulling by a Matamata player led to a punch being thrown by his Cambridge opponent. That punch was returned with interest. Players from both sides moved in to stop the confrontation which was over almost as soon as it had started. By that time, however, the Cambridge management had decided to end the match.

In another pre-season match, Force Three Federation league favourites, Taupo, were beaten 5-1 at Ngaruawahia.
