As
the score suggests the Swifts comfortably scored their second win
of the season in idyllic conditions at the Domain. The overnight
rain meant the surface had some give but was far from soft.
There were only two starting changes with Joel Chamberlain starting
and David Hyslop sharing the strikers role with Matt Montieth.
The first goal came early on with Luis Maldonado curling a delicious
shot home from outside the box with the outside of his right foot.
The second strike saw David Hyslop hit a sweet shot from the edge
of the area after the Waihi defence failed to clear.
Luis Maldonaldo was befuddling the defenders with some nice footwork
and the midfield worked hard to keep the pressure on. Joel Chamberlain
decided he had enough after 20 minutes or so and subbed himself
off, which gave Adrian Phillips his first taste of competitive action
in a Swifts shirt.
Marcelo Marquez somehow avoided a card after mistaking his hand
for his foot. It's a South American thing... Halftime 2-0.
The pressure continued in the second half with Matamata adding four
more goals. Danial Da Silva, who came on for Matt Monteith got two,
and set up David Hyslop for his second, while Jon Monteith added
another.
The defence did have some work to do with a bit of complacency slipping
in later. Matt Aberhart again saved a penalty after Marcelo Marquez's
rather crude challenge.
Matamata Swifts Reserves Matt Aberhart; Michael Collins, Pete
Challis, Marcelo Marquez; Joel Chamberlain, Rob Cox, Andy Monteith,
Jono Monteith; Luis Maldonado; David Hyslop, Matt Monteith.
Subs Adrian Phillips, Daniel da Silva, Keiren McCabe.
