Club Swifts reserves secured their fourth home win of the season
with an entertaining and enterprising performance against Te Awamutu.
The side started off strongly, got better leading into the half
time break and then managed to hold off their fast finishing opponents
to bank all three points.
The reserves were set on their way early on when Michael Spencer,
in his home debut, fired home from a tight angle. Te Awamutu briefly
drew level before the reserves surged ahead. Goals to Jono Monteith,
Jamie Cox and David Hyslop meant the team took a seemingly unassailable
4-1 lead into the break. Their first half effort was one of their
best performances of the season with Hyslop and Rob Cox looking
good in the middle of the park and Spencer showing some superb touches
up front.
The side went off the boil a little in the second half, but never
really looked like being caught. Te Awamutu grabbed a couple of
goals in the last ten minutes to get close but the reserves ran
out deserving winners.
The team was able to hand a starting debut to another college player,
Richard Lor, who did a good job in an unfamiliar position at right-back.
