The
Matamata Swift Ladies team came away with yet another convincing
win on Sunday over in Waihi in very hot conditions. So
Matamata made full use of their reserves bench and continually rolled
on the subs. Right at the start of the game Matamata had a scare
as the Waihi attack managed to get through the Matamata defence
but keeper, Jenn Hull, managed to dive on the ball to stop what
could have been a definite goal straight up.
Thinking this would have woken up the Matamata girls was definitely
not the haps. Through out the first half Matamata were hanging back
on a lot of the play and they were not coming out to meet the ball.
Waihi took full advantage of this and were very unlucky to not come
away with any goals.
At the half time break it was 1-0 to Matamata and coach Nat Gaskell
gave the girls a serious talking to which seemed to get through
as the 2nd half was a lot better. Finally Matamata got back into
their grove and settled into their own style of play and game away
with four more goals.
The Waihi keeper is worth a mention as she would have to have been
the best keeper that Matamata has come up against in the season.
She did well as she was peppered with a lot of shots at goal and
apparantly she is an ex resident of Matamata!
So it was 5 - 0 at the full time whistle, blown by Andy Monteith
and Matamata was very pleased that the game was over.
Goal Scorers were Nat Gaskell - 2, Sarah Monteith, Sarah Hockley
and Kerrie McVeigh all scoring one each.
The Matamata Car Painters of the day was Sarah Monteith playing
up front. Next Sunday is the Ladies' final game for the season.
The game is at home versus Tokoroa with an 11am kick off. See you
there!
