"Rain
rain go away," was the call of the day as the weather was absolutely
shocking. It was a bitterly cold wet day to play a game and there
were even a few mutterings from the Cambridge team to just call
the game off.
So the field under foot was very slippery and muddy and, yes, there
were a lot of players losing their footing. It also made for some
great long distance slides. Matamata dominated the game right from
the get go, using a lot of short direct passes to beat the opposition
and also the long high through ball for the strikers to run onto.
Sarah Hockley capitalised from these plays by scoring an impressive
eight goal tally for the game, although Sarah would not have been
able to do it without the great support play from Sarah Monteith,
Leah Higgins, Serena Jenkins, Ashley Ferguson, Jaimee Morgan and
Nat Gaskell.
The Matamata backline did have to shut down some attempts made by
Cambridge but there was never really any great threat. All in all
the game was a very entertaining one but there may be some disagreement
on this as it could have either been Jenn Hull coming out of goal
to score her second goal of the season or the full team mud fight
at the end of the game.
So Matamata came away with yet another very convincing win. Goal
scorers for the game were Sarah Hockley - 8, Nat Gaskell - 1, Serena
Jenkins - 1, Jenn Hull - 1.
The Matamata Car Painters Player of the Day went, without question,
to Sarah Hockley for the mammoth amount of goals that she scored.
Matamata Ladies play at home this coming Sunday against. Claudelands.
Kick off is at 11am. See you there!
