Match Report

The Swifts reserves maintained their top of the table position after they registered an emphatic win at the Domain on Saturday.

It was a case of converting many of their opportunities against a gallant Te Awamutu team who were outplayed on the day by the more experienced Swifts side.

The Swifts got off to the ideal start when Rodrigo Navarro headed home a Pete Challis freekick in the fourth minute. They were also finding the pitch more to their liking after bumpy surfaces in previous weeks as their passing opened up the visitors defence.

After twenty five minutes Navarro turned provider as he created the opening for Jono Monteith to score his first of the day. Gabriel Valarino created the third goal with his weaving run and cross to the far post for Monteith to score again.

Just before half time Monteith had his hat trick with his shot going through the keepers legs.

Up four-nil at the break the Swifts kept the pressure on in the second half and were rewarded with another four goals.

Matt Monteith had a hand in the fifth goal with Navarro finishing well, Jono Monteith got his fourth when on hand to finish after the ball cannoned off the crossbar.

Navarro then completed his hat trick before turning provider again as Monteith ended the day with another goal off his lethal left foot for a personal total of five.

The defence coped comfortably with the visitor's threats although keeper Richard Paradizo had to dive at a forward's feet to smother one attack and several shots whistled by the post.

Jono Monteith and Julio Medina gave the Swifts width, while Nicolas Sandoval and Gabriel Valarino grafted well in midfield with Bevan Shelley coming on to keep the momentum going.

Up front Navarro showed his class and Matt Monteith acquitted himself well also.

The Swifts player of the day was Jono Monteith with a great all round game capped off with the goals.
