Matamata
Swifts brought the final curtain down on their 2005 football season
with a comfortable victory in sloppy conditions to win the Arthur
Pringle Memorial trophy.
Needing ten goals to crack 100 for the season in all games, both
friendlies and competitive fixtures, the Swifts entered the match
with an unconventional attacking 2-4-4 formation. They took a while
to settle, but got things going soon enough on the difficult surface.
First half doubles to both Adam Graham and Scott Parsonage sandwiched
an Alberto Romero left-footed special.
Greerton got on the score sheet early in the second half after they
were awarded a pretty ropey penalty. Gary Darkes was given no chance
from the spot...
A Duncan Lowry header and a John Massey soft-shoe shuffle and scruff
extended the Swifts' lead before defender, Colin Taylor, pushed
into a centre forward role for the last quarter hour, grabbed a
late double. His first, an emphatic finish from the penalty spot
was followed up with a neatly executed goal with the last kick of
the match.
Matamata finished the game with ten players after Alberto Romero
limped off with a season ending ankle injury.
